FSG’s managing director, Gareth Jenkins, has been recognised as one of the UK’s biggest champions of skills development in advanced manufacturing and engineering at the sixth annual Semta Skills Awards.

Gareth received the award for Skills Champion of the Year in front of industry leaders at the awards ceremony held in London. The award recognised the opportunities Gareth has created in the manufacturing industry in Wales, both as FSG’s managing director and in leading roles with EEF Wales for over a decade.

Since 2009, schemes Gareth played a role in creating, such as the Pathways to Apprenticeship/Enhanced Engineering Programme, Skills Growth Wales, Shared Apprenticeships, Manufacturing Skills Academy and Tailor-made training, have helped create over 9,000 jobs.

"I joined the world of work as an engineering apprentice back in 1972. When I was 22 years old I was lucky enough to go into management and I made a promise to myself that I would create as many opportunities as I could, in the same way people had created them for me,” said Gareth. “In receiving this award I feel very respectful of the people that helped me get these ideas into reality, I have worked with some truly great people.”
